MICHEL Patrick
Education :
2004 : Habilitation to Manage Researches. Thesis title: ``From the fragmentation to the gravitational evolution of asteroids''. University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis.
1997 : PhD in Physics from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis (with Honours and Congratulations of the Jury). Thesis title: ``Dynamical evolution of Near-Earth asteroids''. Defense of the thesis: April 3rd 1997.
1994 : Diplome d'Etudes Approfondies (with Honours), Speciality: Imaging, Astronomy and High Angular Resolution, University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis. Four-month research: ``Numerical integrations of chaotic orbits, effects of close encounters with the Earth: case of the asteroid Toutatis'' at Nice Observatory under the responsability of Ch. Froeschle and P. Farinella.
1993 : Engineer in Aeronautics and Space Sciences.
Awards:
Prize Young Researcher 2006 of the French Society of Astronomy and Astrophysics (SF2A)
Asteroid 7561 PatrickMichel (International Astronomical Union, IAU, designation)
Research Activities:
10/1999- : Permanent Researcher at CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique) in the Cassini Department of the Cote d'Azur Observatory (Nice, France). Researches on the origin and dynamics of different population of small bodies in the Solar System (Near-Earth, Mars-crosser, Main Belt asteroids), on the formation of planetesimals and planetary accretion, on collisional physics applied to the disruption of asteroidal bodies.
10/1997-09/1999 : ESA External Fellowship at Torino Observatory (Italy) in the group of Dynamical Planetology (Director V. Zappala). Researches on dynamics of small bodies and physics of collisions. Research topic: origin of Near-Earth objects and meteorites.
10/1994-04/1997 : PhD student in the group of Dynamical Planetology of the Cassini laboratory at Nice Observatory. Study of the dynamical evolution of Near-Earth asteroids; development of semi-analytical methods which allowed to compute for the first time the location of linear secular resonances and their effects in the region of the terrestrial planets (orbital semimajor axes smaller than 2 AU).
Other Scientific Experiences:
01/1993-04/1993 : Optical/mechanical study and design of a photometer with optical fibres at the Fresnel Departement of Nice Observatory.
07/1992-08/1992 : Observational studies of a variable star with a photometer using optical fibres at the Fresnel Departement of Nice Observatory. Analysis of data obtained during the observations in order to test the photometer efficiency and the software which recolts datas.
