Albert BIJAOUI was born in Monastir (Tunisia) in 1943. He has started researches in Astronomy at Paris Observatory on the applications of electronography. Then, at Nice Observatory, with his collaborators, he built a processing system for astronomical images, especially adapted to large images. This led him to different applications, for the study of the galactic structure and for observational cosmology.

With many collaborators, he has introduced the use of the wavelet transform for cluster analysis and for astronomical image processing. This has led them to build a vision model including matching between images, de-noising and restoration, inventory and reconstruction of individual components. Many applications were done or are in progress for astronomical, remote sensing or biological imaging.

A.Bijaoui has published many papers in international scientific journals on electronography, data, signal and image processing and astrophysics. He has published a book on Image and Information. He has been teaching Image Processing at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis since 1974.
