On the numerical detection of the
effective stability of chaotic motions
in Hamiltonian systems
I describe a recent result about the Fourier analysis of the
chaotic solutions of quasi--integrable systems which allows to investigate
the long-term stability with a short-term numerical integration. The
result has been applied to the study of the long-term stability of some
real asteroids in the outer main belt.
