Adaptive mesh refinement for singular structures
Institut für Theoretische

Singular structures occur in many branches of physics. Examples are vortex
tubes in incompressible flows, current sheets in MHD, filamentation in
nonlinear optics and magnetic reconnection in Hall-MHD. We discuss the
advantages and limitations of block structured adaptive mesh refinement for
studying such problems. Main issues are effective covering of underresolved
regions, parallelisation using space filling curves, complex boundaries and grid instabilities.
